Outstanding Future Professional Award

Meagan Cantu

The Outstanding Future Professional Award honors an outstanding future professional member of the NAHPL majoring in health, physical education, recreation, dance and/or a professionally related field. The nominee must display leadership, scholarship, and service during their undergraduate professional preparation. The 2024 recipient is Meagan Cantu a senior at Texas A & M University Kingsville. Meagan will graduate in May of 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a minor in History. Meagan is a member of the Health and Kinesiology Majors club where she has served as Secretary and President. She has been a member of Texas AHPERD since 2021 where she presented at their 2021 and 2022 conventions and in 2021-2022 she was named Outstanding Student of the Year. Read more

Taylor Dodson Young Professional Award

Kristen Morgan

The Taylor Dodson Young Professional Award recognizes a young professional who is less than 40 years of age and has provided 5 years of meritorious service in a Southern Tier state. Kristen Morgan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University. She is a NAHPL member and meets the age and service criterion. Her primary academic role serves the HPE Teacher Education Program. She is the only doctorally prepared faculty supporting this degree and she teaches a variety of Undergraduate and Graduate courses including Elementary Teaching Methods and classes leading to certification in Adapted Physical Education. Kristen has demonstrated strong leadership in modifying courses, field experiences, and developing a summer camp for children with disabilities. Read more.

Scholar Award

Edward Hebert

The Scholar Award promotes and stimulates scholarly productivity among professionals and recognizes senior-level scholars who have made and continue to make contributions to the profession. Dr. Edward (Eddie) Hebert received his Ph.D. in Kinesiology from LSU in 1995. Throughout his academic career he has produced 66 peer reviewed publications, 117 presentations at professional conferences and has 4 manuscripts in review at the current time. His research interests include Physical Education Pedagogy, Exercise Physiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Motor Behavior and Health. Read more.

Donna L. Dunaway Medal

Hollie Newnam

The Donna L. Dunaway Medal is the highest award the National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy, Southern Tier can bestow on a member and honors the professional life and career-long contributions to the Southern Tier states by Donna L. Dunaway. In that spirit, the Dunaway Medal honors those individuals who have made significant and sustained contributions and given meritorious service to the NAHPL Southern Tier or like-minded professional associations over a minimum period of 15 years. The 2024 recipient of this award is Hollie Newnam of Florida.
Hollie’s sustained and meritorious contributions began when she joined AAHPERD in 1981 as an undergraduate junior at the University of Central Florida. Years later she became FAHPERD Dance Association President-elect. That experience solidified her desire to continue her involvement and she did that by serving as their convention manager for 18 years. She furthered her involvement by being FAHPERD’s President for two terms and their Executive Director for 8 years. Read more.

W. Clyde Partin Service Award

Royal Printing, Oklahoma City

The W. Clyde Partin Service Award recognizes a non-member or organization that has made a significant contribution to the National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy, Southern Tier or a state or states within the Southern Tier. The recipient of the 2023 award is Royal Printing of Oklahoma. Royal Printing was instrumental in helping the Academy founders create our national and regional logos, layout designs for Synergies and created the current look digitally, in print, and on our websites. They did this at no charge to the founders and continue to make their staff and expertise available when asked. Read more.
